timeless? classic?

i would like to clear up something. i think people get confused when someone refers to a certain piece of clothing as being "timeless" or "a classic". yes, there are certain items that are timeless or classic but, it's more that the IDEA of them is timeless/classic-not the actual piece itself. for instance: a white, button down, collared shirt. a classic, no doubt. BUT, if you think that the white, button down, collared shirt that you bought from casual corner back in 1985 is going to fit well and look good on you today, you're crazy. hem lengths, overall fits, etc have changed over the years. another example is a denim jacket. always a good thing to have in your closet but, not if it's big, boxy, and acid wash from 1980. today's fit is more cropped, fitted, and a darker wash. even just the simple black pant..today's versions will fit much differently from those made back in 1995.

  1. Good point. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that anything one might have in their closet from casual corner from 1985 is grounds for pleading insanity in fashion court.
